Local couple Lee Miller and Michelle Joyce are the brains and the brawn behind Chesterfield based firm The Window People.
Founded in 2016 by Lee. He bought himself a van, registered as self-employed and set off on a mission to provide fantastic customer service and great products at an affordable price. Mission accomplished Lee!
Thirty-eight-year-old Linacre entrepreneur, Lee, runs the business alongside his long-term girlfriend, Michelle from Walton.
"Me and Michelle live and work together in harmony haha. Seriously, we do make a great team. Michelle handles all the office stuff brilliantly, which I’m not a fan of and I handle all the installations, ensuring the highest standards are met," says Lee.
Lee saw success early on in his business adventure and expanded the company quickly. Having met Lee in person I have no doubt his outgoing and friendly personality played a huge part in his early success. With him out in the field everyday chatting to customers and leading on installations.
"Running a business in Chesterfield is great as it’s a town on the up. In many ways it feels like living in the big city, but with a community feel about it. The people are always so friendly, and we get a lot of our work through recommendations from friends, family and previous customers”."
The Window People’s expansion has created jobs in the local area, now employing two fitters and two apprentices. Lee has over 20 years' experience in the industry and is happy to be able to pass on his expertise to the team.
"Being able to employ local people and offer apprenticeships to the next generation is important to me and something I never dreamed of when I bought my van back in 2016. I have a great team behind me and hope to create even more jobs and opportunities in the future, passing on my knowledge and skills along the way," Lee goes on to say, "over the years The Window People have expanded their product range installing double glazed windows, UPVC conservatories, composite doors and more recently orangeries.
“Orangeries are proving a very popular addition to our range, and like all of our products they are backed by a ten-year guarantee. They are an all year usable room with a bit of the wow factor. Our products are manufactured locally, keeping money in the local area and are ‘A’ rated energy efficient”.
Lee openly admits he is no salesman and during visits he simply advises potential customers on the best products for their home and leaves them a free, no obligation quote.
