Celebrating Creativity & Community

This May marked the fourth year of Junction Arts Chesterfield Postcard Show, a much-loved celebration of creativity and community spirit. Hosted at West Studios on Sheffield Road, the exhibition ran for 10 days and showcased an incredible 401 original postcard-sized artworks by 116 individual artists and 9 local groups, all exploring the theme of HOME.
"Every year we feature a postcard from the show on our front cover and this wonderful illustration of Stanage Edge by Claire Walker is this year's choice (shown above). it's stunning," Simon, S41 Magazine Editor.
ED: Our image on S40 Local is a second illustration by Clare, this time looking across Padley Gorge.
Artists, local creatives, schools, families, and community groups came together to donate their artwork in support of Junction Arts, a Chesterfield-based community arts charity. Funds raised from this year’s show will support Cosy Crafts—a free, fortnightly, artist-led workshop group that offers a warm, welcoming space for local people to get creative, connect, and find support. The group is part of the national Warm Spaces initiative, helping individuals manage the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis.
Thanks to generous donations and postcard sales, the 2025 show raised just shy of £1000—enough to fund Cosy Crafts for another three months when its current funding ends. A fantastic achievement!
With this year’s event barely over, the team at Junction Arts is already looking ahead. 2026 marks the charity’s 50th anniversary, and plans are underway for a special edition of the Postcard Show to celebrate its legacy and impact.
The first step? Finding a new venue in Chesterfield town centre to host the exhibition and a series of celebratory events. If you're interested in supporting next year’s show or know a space that could host it, Junction Arts would love to hear from you!
