If you happen to be walking close to the village of Holymoorside, you may well hear voices calling: ‘Fifteen-Love’, ‘Thirty-Forty’, ‘Deuce’, mingled with the local birdsong. Holymoorside Tennis Club lies in a picturesque rural setting next to the Hipper Valley Trail.

It's been here since 1973, beginning life in the 1930s in a different village location. Cows would sometimes invade the grass courts, leaving unwelcome ‘deposits’. Nowadays you'll find three, well-maintained Tarmac courts, a small clubhouse with changing facilities, toilets, a kitchen - and enthusiastic, friendly members.
Club’s chair, Keith Singleton, says: "We have beautiful surroundings and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome. There's a ‘drop in’ session every Tuesday and Sunday morning, and members’ club night 6pm on Wednesdays. We have teams in the Chesterfield and District Summer and Winter Leagues, and a Summer Club Tournament with a trophy for the winner.

Current membership for a full year is £70, and £15 for juniors, giving use of the courts at any time during the year, apart from match days. Day fees for non-members are £3 per adult and £1 per junior.
